Brownfields Initiative

The Acadiana Regional Development District has funds to assess petroleum sites community-wide.  ARDD targets abandoned petroleum sites near residential areas resulting from oil and gas activities and attempt to put these contaminated or perceived contaminated properties back in use into redevelopment for housing, or businesses, or green spaces.   

What are Brownfields?

Brownfields are properties which may have expansion, redevelopment, or reuse challenges from hazardous substances, pollutants or contaminants.

What sites are eligible

• Hazardous substances
• Contaminants
• Pollutants
• Petroleum products
• Illegal drug labs
• Mine-scarred lands

Who is elibible to apply

• States
• Tribes
• Logal governments and redevelopment agencies
• Regional councils of government
• Non-profits

What type of sites are ineligible

• Facilities listed (or proposed for listing) on the National Priorities List (NPL)
• Facilities subject to UAOs, court orders, AOs on consent, or judicial consent decrees issued or entered into by parties under CERCLA
• Facilities that are subject to the jurisidiction, custody or control of a department or agency of the United States government (except land held in trust for an Indian Tribe)

Who is excluded from applying

• Potentially liable parties
• Private owners and/or developer
